What makes us different

Most fence companies build with whatever the yard had that week.

We mill our own wood, guaranteeing that only the finest materials go into your project.

That one fact changes the parts of a fence you notice a year later. Consistent board thickness is the difference between a fence line that reads straight and one that does not, and it is the reason we can build a custom gate to a drawing instead of to whatever widths were in stock.

  • Boards cut to the job, not to the sizes a lumberyard happens to sell.
  • Redwood as standard, which is what holds up to a wet winter and a dry summer here.
  • Quality control before delivery, so warped stock never reaches your yard.

What we build

Fences, gates, and the finishing that makes them last.

Twenty four services across fencing, gates and finishing. Every one of them a real page, not a city name swapped into the same paragraph.

Why us

Four things we will put in writing.

01

We mill our own wood

Most fence companies buy whatever the lumberyard has that week. We mill our own, so the boards that arrive at your property are the boards we chose.

02

Five years on our workmanship

A written five-year warranty on the work itself, not a verbal promise and not a warranty that only covers the material.

03

Free estimate, usually next day

We come out, measure, and give you a real number. No charge and no obligation, and most jobs can start within three days.

04

English and Spanish

Our crew works in both languages, so the person measuring your yard and the person building it can talk to you directly.

Family run

A small crew that shows up, in the language you want to speak.

The JS Fencing is family owned and family run. Wilson and Rene are on the jobs, not in an office, and the person who measures your yard is the person who builds it. Our crew works in English and Spanish.

How it goes

Four steps, and you know the number before we start.

01

Free estimate

We come out, walk the line with you, measure, and talk through height, style and where the gates want to go. You get a real number, not a range.

02

Permit and layout

If your city needs a permit for the height you want, we pull it. We mark the line, confirm the property boundary, and agree the post spacing before anything goes in the ground.

03

Build

Posts set first and given time. Then rails, then boards off our own mill. Most residential runs are done in a few days to a week.

04

Walk it with you

We walk the finished line together, adjust gate swing and latch height, clean up, and hand over the five-year workmanship warranty in writing.

Local knowledge

The rules nobody else around here publishes.

Four jurisdictions, four different answers, drawn to the same scale. Every figure traces to the city that published it.

3 ft 7 ft FRONT REAR

San Jose

3 ft front, 7 ft rear

On a corner lot the street-facing side counts as a front yard, so the 3 ft limit follows it round.

7 ft 6 ft LATTICE

Morgan Hill

7 ft, lattice required above 6 ft

A solid 7 ft board fence does not comply. 6 ft solid with a 1 ft lattice top does.

CURB 7 ft 26 ft back

Gilroy

7 ft, but 26 ft back from the curb

Above 3 ft it has to sit 26 ft back. On a shallow front yard that rules out a tall fence near the street.

8 ft 7 ft

Santa Clara County

8 ft, unincorporated

Taller than any of the cities allow. An -h, -sr or -d combining district overrides it.
